UNCLE FRANK

We called him "Uncle Frank" our affectionate name for him but in reality he was our friend, our mentor, and the doctor who delivered my children.  He passed  but 8 months after my Bill in September of 2012.  And this is what I wrote remembering his love, sharing and caring....

Uncle Frank, as we would say
Went to live with the Lord today.
Went to live with my sweet Bill
Tears of sadness from my heart I spill.

You were a good Christian man
Ever since I met you when you were thirty two.
You delivered our children, Christine and Dan
And became a life-long friend, yes, YOU.

Your kindness gave us a start in life
When we were struggling in our youth.
And renting your house on the farm
Brought us even closer to your family
As Bill worked with you arm in arm.

You and Sonny remained our friends
All through these 50 years
Sharing love and laughter and even tears.
Good memories Frank, thank you, my dear.

I pray that you are with my Bill
and your passing was God's will.
As cancer took you both this year
I will always remember you with
  a smile and a tear...
My Christian heart to yours...

Going Home

GOING HOME
       ©Kerrie O'Hearn Marquart

Me and brother Joe in the 1940's
They say you can't go home again,
I pray that is not true.
I long to walk familiar streets,
And familiar sights to view.

I miss the smell of the earth
  in Spring
When farmers turn their        fields.
And then again in the fall
  When farmers sell their yield.

Remembering when as a child,
My brother was my best friend.
And even now after all these years,
He still is until the end.

I long to see a Northern sky
In the morning when I rise
And smell the freshness in the air
While drinking hot coffee
Seeing birds in the skies.

My hometown is a comfort place
Where memories come forth
Where I might meet a familiar face
And share our memories back and forth.

So I am going home again,
for now just in my dreams
But soon I will travel to the future-
That I will find in my past
When I go home again at last.

Without you...

         WITHOUT YOU…
©Kerrie O’Hearn Marquart

If I should walk upon this earth without you
I would never see the sunset as beautiful as before.
I would never greet the dawn of morning
With a smile and a song like I did before.

I miss the sound of your footfall in the hall
Your smile when you smelled coffee
And the toast popping up for you.
Sitting on the porch to ponder a new day.

I miss your hug and gentle kiss
Together we were such a team
Alone I am but a one-winged moth
When I used to be a butterfly.

Happiness meant being with you Bill
It always did and it always will.
And though my tears flow less often now,
You are deep in my heart and I know that YOU Know.

IT'S MY BIRTHDAY!

IT'S MY BIRTHDAY...
              ©Kerrie O'Hearn Marquart

Today the numbers are turned around
From seventeen to seventy one.
And Bill is no longer here to celebrate
Bill my beloved, wonderful mate.

We sure were full of dreams back then
And life was good to us, times ten.
God was good to bring us together
What a blessing through good and bad weather.

And we took our vows very seriously when
" til death do us part" was repeated back then.
Love at the first and love at the last
Holding your hand, the suffering was past.

But I will celebrate in my heart with you
Though you are in heaven, you are still you
And I feel you here beside me.
I hear you say "Happy Birthday Kerr"
And then a romantic card you gave
With a big smile and a kiss...so dear.

Thanking God for all the birthdays I spent with you.
And for all your birthdays, too,
I got to spend with you.
The two of us were one, half of me is you
Together we were the whole.

Poem: Wish We Could Start Again

3/11/13

Wish we could start again
    ©Kerrie O’Hearn Marquart

I sometimes wish that we could start again
Like when we were young way back when
When lovin’ you was all I ever needed,
You lovin’ me was all you ever needed.

Hand in hand we’d walk a sunny trail
Just lovin’ life and knowing we’d never fail
At love, at life, at anything, we two
As long as we had each other, never blue.

We looked forward to a life that was so rare
So much in love in storms we never cared,
Nothin’ could be wrong when we were two, honey
How blessed I was when God gave me you!

Now I am alone and sometimes blue
But your memory warms my heart ever true
I never thought I would have to walk alone, honey
But still, I wish I could start again with you....

New Poems and old ones

Sophia b. 1/28/2013 @ 2:30pm

Hello Sofiah, you lovely great Granddaughter!
What a blessing is your arrival has been!
So happy I am here to see you and then
I think of Great Grandpa Bill and the love
   He also would send
    to you darling baby girl.

Your Mommy and Daddy are so proud
And first time Grandma Barb squealed aloud
At the thrill of seeing you for the first time
I love you Sofiah, great granddaughter of mine.

Rain Drops

Raindrops softly falling on the thirsty summer rose
Blades of grass are green, wherever they grow
A quiet peace comes over my little kingdom here
Trusting in the Lord, there is nothing that I fear.

11/24 10  Good night sky
                    ©Kerrie O'Hearn Marquart
Good night burning embers in the sky
Good night Mallards floating by.
Good night silhouetted trees against the sky
Good night to all the birds that fly
Silently above the clouds to find
Their roosting place that would be kind
Until the morning light.

ll/25/10  GIVING THANKS
                   ©Kerrie O'Hearn Marquart

When first I fold my hands in prayer
All those far away are present here
If not in sight, but in my heart
God unites us in every part
Together at end of day.

Another Thanksgiving memory with family
A gift from God to me
I will look back on this day and smile
At what was your way to make me laugh
   as in time past.

The warmth of the candles, the oven and love
Filling the kitchen, my heart and some
Left over to spill on days ahead.
I will remember all as I break my bread
On ordinary days.

All god's love from up above
As the Egret flies and Mallards come
Visiting the pond bank in Autumn sun
Gracing my world with the Holy One
Thanking you for every tiny thing
You have ever given to me.
Without You, Lord, where would I be?

Such Beauty 8-29-10
    by Kerrie O'Hearn Marquart

Thank you God for humming birds
And all of your creatures dear
We are very blessed to have them
Around us all so near.

Thank you for all the creatures
Who bless our humble space
Each time we gaze upon their beauty,
We catch a glimpse of
Your beautiful face.

LITTLE GIFTS FROM THEE
        by Kerrie O'Hearn Marquart

A lovely flower he brought to me
And I treasured it as you can see
I put it where I spend my time
And now I see it all the time.

He always thinks of things to brighten my day
Though he is not well but still I pray
Every day for a miracle to come
And heal my beloved, my dearest one.

We treasure each moment given to us
And he bears the burdens without a fuss
Though pain is often his companion now
His love never ceases to overflow
   And cover me...

SUMMER RAIN 7/9/10
     by Kerrie O'Hearn Marquart

How I love the summer rain
The sound of droplets on windowpane,
The silver splashes upon the lake
And thirsty plants-a drink they take
The grass looks greener than before
When last I stepped outside my door.

Ah Summer rain! I love the peace,
A quiet time to write a poetry piece
Or curl up with a lovely book
With kitty in a cozy nook.
And all the housework I forsook
For a lovely summer rain!

A BLUE BIRD CALL    6/21/10
    By Kerrie O'Hearn Marquart

A tiny body needing food
  A weary Mama understood
A fluttering of a baby's wings
  Bring Mama holding nourishing things
To please her darling baby.

DRAGONFLY
     - Kerrie O'Hearn Marquart

Upon fairy's wings I fly
And all the pleasures I derive
Are from floating in a gentle breeze
That carries me from Lake to trees
   and ever, ever upward.

Hovering over the lake I spy
A large Mouth Bass that has me in his eye,
But just as he decides to strike
I lift myself from his sight
On my trusty fairy wings!

8/11/2000   AN EVENING PRAYER
                        by Kerrie O'Hearn Marquart

The Lord is my Nightlight...

Lord, bless my head down to my feet
As now I lay me down to sleep.
Fill my dreams with spiritual things
And fill my heart with love
That only knowing You brings
  ~because of Your saving Grace.

I sometimes forget to call Your name
Or reach to touch Your mighty hand
But I know You know my wants and needs
   Without me even speaking!

Hold me in the palm of Your great hand
Let my sleeping head be cradled there
And when I wake, please keep your hand at my back
To keep me upright in your path.
Thank you Lord, my "Night Light".

A New Beginning

A Quiet New Year's Eve...
    ©Kerrie O'Hearn Marquart 1/1/2013

Last New Year's Eve I woke you up
When midnight rang the New Year in.
We softly kissed as we always did
And prayed for a miracle once again.

No midnight kiss, no loving Bill,

No miracle did our Lord fulfill.
My first New Year's Eve without you.

I miss you so, holidays have been empty

Without your love and wonderful smiles.
And my smiles are certainly few
As I face another year without you.

I do have wonderful memories

of all the things that made us one
I know you are in heaven now
With the Father and the holy Son.

I pray I told you often enough

How much I loved and appreciated
Your warmth, your love, your kisses and such
That still warm my heart so very much.

But God has given me hope and strength

That I never imagined I had
And yes, I know I will live on
Even though I lost the best friend and love
I ever had~
  YOU.
