The Fireplace

     The Fireplace
          By Kerrie O’Hearn Marquart

While walking down a sunny trail
I came upon the ruins of a chimney frail
In a wooded area all decorated for Fall.

And I wondered what the house was like
And who had lived there
Was it tended to by a wife so fair
With ribbons tied in her golden hair?

Or was it a man who loved the lay of the land
And built it with his own two hands
And longed for someone with whom he could
     share it?

Whoever lived here I sense, found quiet and       peace
And riches from God and nature that never    ceased
And one day moved away…

The chimney has a tale to tell
But it won’t share it with me
And so I go along my way
Carrying only the memory with me.
