FALL CAME TIP-TOEING

FALL CAME TIPTOEING...
        by Kerrie O'Hearn Marquart

Fall came tiptoeing into my yard
Through fallen leaves that trees discard.
It comes with whispers through the leaves
Ablaze in glory of orange, brown and green.

Fall came tiptoeing as it put a chill in the air
Shriveling the remnants of garden fair
One last pepper clings to the stalk
I noticed it on my morning walk.

Fall came tiptoeing when I awoke to cold, crisp dawn
And placed heavy dew upon the browning lawn
Until the brilliant Autumn sun warmed the ground
And air and also my heart, I found.

I welcome the sounds and smells and sights of fall
The sound of raking leaves, geese flying North
                         above us all.
And though I love the seasons all,
My very favorite will always be Fall!
